Arsenal's stubborn
manager Arsene Wenger is finally showing some regret over his decision to engage
in a shoving match with Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho last week.
The
Frenchman, fueled by a terrible tackle on Alexis Sanchez, raced over to plead
his case to the officials and when his bitter rival crossed his path, he
did his best to clear his lane.
It
was a thoroughly enjoyable spectacle that gained plenty of traction
during and after the match, but one that Wenger clearly realizes was
inappropriate.
“They
gave too much importance to this story. In hindsight I think I should not have
reacted at all, it’s not a way to behave on a football field,” the Arsenal
boss told The Guardian.
“I
always regret any signs of violence and I apologize, but that’s a part of games
where everything is manic. And then we have quite a substantial past. Did
Mourinho provoke me? That is how I felt. I did not enter Chelsea’s technical
area.”
