The Oyo/ Osun State Command of the Nigeria Customs through its anti-smuggling outfit has made a seizure of 30,000 pieces of ammunition and 6,250 cartridges concealed in 20 cartons.
The Area Comptroller of the command, Richard Oteri revealed that the ammunition were cleverly concealed in a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KW 286 SHH along the Saki-Ago axis of Oyo State in the early hours of Monday 10, March.
Oteri who disclosed that the seizure was effected by the anti-smuggling team of the command led by Sc Okoi, said the arms were cleverly packed with yam tubers and bags of cassava flour. “The driver of the bus, Abdulraheem Adegoke who is the main suspect is currently under investigation,” Oteri said.
The area comptroller also recalled that the command recorded a similar success on May 18, 2013 when it made a seizure of 56, 750 rounds of live cartridges along the same axis.
Oteri who restated the command’s determination to build on its recent success said, “we will continue to draw the robust intelligence strategy which has been inculcated in us in several capacity building courses that we have attended on border security,” he said.
Oteri warned those who engage in smuggling of unwholesome goods that the command is more determined than ever to make Oyo and Osun states secure. He promised that the command would continue to partner with other security agencies to make the Oyo/Osu Command and indeed the country at large, a safe place.
