GIAMA Excites Chigozie Atuanya

Chigozie Atuanya's Igbo language movie, Chetanna, was announced as winner of the Best Indigenous Film at the Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA), which took place last Saturday, October 25, in Houston, USA.

Speaking with Nigeriafilms.com, a visibly excited Chigozie Atuanya, whose wife was recently delivered of a baby girl, expressed his gratitude to God for helping him make history with his movie. He also revealed that he has more blockbuster movies coming out soon.

"I owe this award to God and my team for being very supportive. I couldn't have got here without the grace of God and the tremendous love and support of my team. I'm so grateful. This is just the beginning of greater things coming from my cooler of goodies.

“I am still working on other blockbusters; there is no limitation to what we can achieve with God. We need to stand out and promote our culture and values. Cultural in-depth movies are what people abroad crave for. In all, I thank God, my wife and my crew for this award," Chigozie said.

The Igbo movie made history earlier this year when it became the first Igbo language movie to be premiered in the United States.

It was premiered on July 25, 2014 at the Igbo World Festival of Arts and Culture, which was held at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, Virginia, USA. It was also premiered at the Igbo Catholic Community Center, Houston.

‘Chetanna’ is one of the most anticipated indigenous language movies in 2014. It stars Chigozie Atuanya, Queen Nwokoye, Ebube Nwagbo, and Ebele Okaro-Onyiuke. It was produced by Chigozie Atuanya, and directed by Ikechukwu Onyeka.

The movie is currently on a tour of the United States. Movie fans are eagerly anticipating the premiere of the movie in Nigeria, which we learnt will take place before the end of the year. The movie will be premiered in Lagos, Awka, Aba, Enugu, Owerri, and Umuahia.
