Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel
Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, James Rodriguez … this Saturday’s El
Clásico will contain such a sparkling array of talent that it is set
to be the first ever €1 billion (£816m) football match.
Despite the absence of the
world’s most expensive footballer in Gareth Bale – who will miss the match
through injury – market valuations for the likely Real
Madrid and Barcelona starting XIs suggest the Santiago Bernabéu
will play host to a never before seen wealth of footballing superstars.
Headed by £105.6m Ronaldo,
it is Real Madrid who come out marginally on top in the money stakes, having
assembled a first team worth a huge £411.4m.
The attacking threat
possessed by Carlo Ancelotti’s side is further highlighted by a front six
containing the likes of Rodriguez, Modric and Karim Benzema, worth an average
£52.3m.
Barcelona’s superstar
forward Messi leads the way for the visitors with the same £105.6m valuation as
his counterpart Ronaldo, while £61.6m Neymar and £52.8m Suarez complete the
most fearsome attacking trio in the world.
