Old G's
We often see all sorts of
hip-hop related lists — best verse, best album, best rapper —
and why not? They’re fun to argue about and everyone can have an
opinion. One thing that isn’t up for as much
debate: Forbes’ annual list of Hip-Hop’s
Cash Kings.
Atop the 2014 list is Dr. Dre.
After his Beats Electronics was acquired by Apple, the music industry vet
enjoyed the “highest yearly earnings total of any musician ever
evaluated” by the magazine, with an astounding $620 million.
Next up, tied at $60 million,
are Jay Z and Diddy. For Hov, his touring, sales from Magna Carta Holy Grail, D’usse
cognac and Roc Nation outfit contributed; Puff, meanwhile, came up off of
ventures like Ciroc, Blue Flame marketing and Sean John.
Rounding out the top five,
Drake earned $33 million thanks to things like touring and an endorsement deal
with Jordan, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis raked in $32 million, largely from
live shows.
The full top 20 also includes
Kanye West, Tech N9ne, J. Cole and Mac Miller and more.
