SenatorLiyel Imoke
(CON), the amiable Executive Governor of Cross River State, has felicitated
with the Golden Eaglets following their qualification for Niger 2015 African
Championship after a five-star performance in a 5-0 massacre of Gabon at the
U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar over the weekend.
Speaking to the players
inside the locker room after the match on Saturday, Hon. Patrick Ugbe, the
state’s commissioner for Sport and Youth
Development, quoted the
Governor as saying he was glad that the Golden Eaglets sealed their
qualification yet again in Calabar as did their predecessors on their way to
winning the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
“Let me congratulate you on behalf of His Excellency,
Governor Liyel Imoke for the wonderful performance you put up this evening
(Saturday),” said Ugbe who represented the Governor as the Guest
of Honour. “The joy for me today, is that I was here on
behalf of His Excellency to watch this wonderful performance and what you have
done was to spell Gabon.”
Ugbe who was in company of
Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme , NFF’s Director Technical, said the team deserved a
part on the back for showing the visitors they were the better side
despite losing 2-1 in Libreville.
He was of the opinion that
they would go places in Niger with the same ‘never-say-die’
spirit and play against their peers without any fear.
