Omoni Oboli
Nollywood actress Omoni
Oboli says speculations about her competence as a movie director are baseless
and irrelevant.
According to her, the
experience she gathered while on movie sets and at the New York Film Academy
are enough to qualify her.
‘I learnt some people asked if I am competent enough to
direct a movie; without wanting to join issues with those people, the answer to
their question is yes. Not only have I picked up on-the field experience, I
also went to one of the best film schools in the world, the New York Film
Academy (NYFA) to learn directing specifically.
She described her stay at the
school as interesting, and added ‘My lecturers were
impressed with my project and I remain one of the few female practitioners in
the industry who have gone to the school. If my years of experience and NYFA
education don’t qualify me, I wonder what will.’
Oboli’s
directorial debut, Being Mrs Elliot was released in Nigerian cinemas
in September, and stars her in the lead role along with others like Majid
Michel, Ayo Makun, and Lepacious Bose and others.
